The intensive course “Workshop on the Use of LiDAR Technology in Aerial Photogrammetry” was held on May 26, 27, and 28, 2025. The course was initiated and funded by the Fabre Consortium to provide technicians from the Consortium’s various partners with specialized training in the use of LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technologies.
The course included theoretical modules with lectures held at the ENEA Casaccia Research Center on the first day, and two one-day practical field sessions: the first at the Cineto Bridge on the SP37b near Cineto Romano and the second at the Fiacchignano viaduct, along the SS675 “Umbro-Laziale” highway near the Narni Scalo junction. This last session was organized in collaboration with Anas.
The lessons were taught by PersonalDrones Academy staff in collaboration with UNexGen with the following training objectives:
- Master the operating principles of LIDAR technology and its applications in remote sensing;
- Acquire advanced skills in managing the DJI Zenmuse L2 payload;
- Develop effective methodologies for data acquisition and processing;
- Implement optimized workflows for complex mapping projects.
A specific focus is on the DJI Matrice 350 RTK + Zenmuse L2 system, designed for professional remote sensing and precision mapping applications.
Given the interest and success of the initiative, the Fabre Consortium will offer this and similar courses to its partners in the future.
The FABRE YouTube channel features a video illustrating the workshop promoted by the FABRE Consortium on LiDAR technology, applied to monitoring bridges and viaducts using remotely piloted systems. The workshop was organized for the FABRE Consortium by PersonalDrones Academy in collaboration with Unexgen and with the participation of ANAS – Umbrian Territorial Structure and ENEA.
