First Edition of the Second Level University Master’s Degree: Presentation of Final Theses

On Tuesday, May 26, the Second Level Master’s Degree in “Safety Assessment and Management of Existing Infrastructure Works” concluded at the headquarters of the Superior Council of Public Works. The Master’s Degree is sponsored by the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design of the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” and the FABRE Consortium, sponsored by the Superior Council of Public Works and ANSFISA. I am honored to be the Director of the Master’s Degree.

The judging panel was attended by distinguished representatives from the academic and institutional worlds: the President of the Superior Council of Public Works, Massimo Sessa; the President of the Fabre Consortium, Professor Walter Salvatore; the heads of the ANSFISA General Directorates, Pierluigi Navone for railway safety and Emanuele Renzi for road and highway infrastructure safety; and Eng. Simone Puggelli of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, as well as Professors Armando Brath of the University of Bologna, Diana Salciarini of the University of Perugia, and Mattia Zizi of the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”.

During the day, the first 26 students graduated at the end of a high-profile training program, characterized by the integration of scientific insights, regulatory and management aspects, and professional liability issues.

It was a particularly intense and rewarding day, representing not only the culmination of a high-level training program but also an important opportunity for discussion on the issues of safety and management of the country’s infrastructure assets.

Heartfelt thanks go to the Fabre Consortium, to the numerous faculty members who contributed to the training activities—87 professionals and academics from 27 different institutions (universities, engineering firms, and public bodies)—and to the members of the Scientific Council. Special thanks also go to the students, who approached this challenging journey with dedication and commitment.

The safety of our infrastructure is certainly based on technical and scientific expertise, but also on a sense of responsibility, which must guide all stakeholders involved in the design, construction, monitoring, and management of projects.

Developing highly qualified professionals who are aware of their role, while promoting an increasingly widespread culture of infrastructure safety, is the fundamental objective of this cultural and educational project.
